Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of coffee do you serve?
We serve specialty-grade coffee from rotating Parisian micro-roasters. Our menu includes espresso, Americano, flat white, cappuccino, cortado, and filter coffee (pour-over and batch brew). We focus on single-origin beans and seasonal blends, with detailed tasting notes available for each offering. The quality and freshness are several levels above standard hotel coffee.
What kind of machine do you have?
Well, La Marzocco of course.
Do you offer plant-based milk options?
Yes, we offer oat milk, almond milk, and soy milk as alternatives to dairy. Our oat milk is particularly popular with espresso drinks, as it froths beautifully and complements the coffee's natural sweetness. All plant-based options are high-quality, barista-grade products sourced from reputable suppliers.
Are pastries or light snacks available?
Yes, we partner with local bakeries to offer fresh croissants, pain au chocolat, almond croissants, and seasonal pastries each morning. We also have a selection of granola, yogurt bowls, and fresh fruit. For afternoon visitors, we serve cookies, brownies, and other baked goods. Everything is made fresh daily and sourced from neighborhood artisans.
Can I work with a laptop in the coffee area?
Absolutely. The Specialty Coffee Corner is designed as a comfortable workspace as well as a café. We have ample seating, power outlets at most tables, and strong Wi-Fi. Many guests work here in the mornings or afternoons, enjoying great coffee while responding to emails or taking video calls. The atmosphere is calm and conducive to focus.
Is the coffee corner open to people who are not staying at the hotel?
Primarily, the coffee corner is for Hotel Ranque guests. However, during off-peak hours, we welcome local residents and visitors who appreciate specialty coffee. If you're not staying with us, feel free to stop by—but during busy morning and afternoon periods, we prioritize hotel guests to ensure they have seating and service.
What are the opening hours?
The Specialty Coffee Corner is open daily from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This schedule captures the morning rush, midday coffee breaks, and afternoon work sessions. If you need coffee outside these hours, instant coffee and tea are available in your room, though we encourage you to experience the real thing during opening hours.
Do you sell beans to take home?
Yes! We sell bags of our current coffee offerings—both whole bean and ground—so you can take a taste of Hotel Ranque home with you. Beans are packaged fresh from our partner roasters, and we're happy to recommend brewing methods and grind sizes based on your equipment. It's a great souvenir for coffee enthusiasts.
Can I order coffee to my room?
While we prefer guests to experience the full coffee corner atmosphere, we understand some mornings call for in-room service. You can order coffee and pastries for room delivery via our front desk or in-room phone. There may be a small delivery fee. However, we genuinely believe the walk downstairs is worth it—the coffee tastes better when freshly pulled.
Do you offer coffee brewing classes or tastings?
Occasionally, yes! We host cupping sessions and brewing workshops with our partner roasters, typically once or twice a month. These events are announced via our newsletter and front desk. Participation is free for hotel guests. It's a wonderful way to deepen your appreciation for specialty coffee and meet fellow enthusiasts.
How do you choose your coffee roasters?
We partner exclusively with Parisian micro-roasters who share our values: quality sourcing, transparent relationships with farmers, and meticulous roasting. We rotate our offerings seasonally to highlight different origins and profiles—bright and fruity in spring, rich and chocolatey in winter, for example. If you have questions about a specific coffee, our baristas are knowledgeable and happy to discuss.
